Nearly 100% of Staff at This Newark Charter School Have Received a COVID-19 Vaccine
Nearly eight months after Great Oaks Legacy Charter School in Newark brokered efforts to get its educators and support staff vaccinated from COVID-19, the school administration on Friday announced that nearly all school employees have received a vaccination.
Great Oaks, a seven-campus public charter school in the city, was one of the first city schools to mandate the vaccine once shots became readily available for staff. Starting in spring, the Newark charter teamed up with health professionals from University Hospital and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center to arrange vaccination appointments for staff. With help from both hospitals, the effort led to more than half of the school’s staff members being vaccinated.
Now, the school is on its way to reaching a whole staff that is fully vaccinated.
