Great Oaks Legacy Charter School Strives to Get More Youth Inoculated, Hosts COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics

Moments before Seyfunmi Onaiyekan, a fifth-grade student at Great Oaks Legacy Charter School, rolled up his sleeve to get his first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, he admitted he was a bit nervous to get the shot. Ultimately, those nerves didn’t stop the 10-year-old from understanding the importance of getting the vaccine for the benefit of his school community.

“It’s something new,” said Seyfunmi. “I just want to stay safe and make sure that I don’t get COVID.”

Proudly standing over Seyfunmi’s shoulder as he received the vaccine was his father Olusegun. Noting that his son’s two teenage siblings both got the vaccine and responded well to it, Olusegun said he was confident and hopeful that his child would be safer when he enters the school building each day.

“I’m delighted that a vaccine has been developed for the children,” said Olusegun. “When new situations come, we have to respond to it.”
