1,000 Winter Coats Handed Out to Newark Residents at South Ward Promise Neighborhood Annual Event
About 1,000 coats were distributed to Newark residents in the South Ward this month as winter kicks into high gear and temperatures continue to drop.
The coats were distributed by officials from South Ward Promise Neighborhood, a Newark-based community outreach and resource organization, partnering with Macy’s to host a coat drive event. This was the second annual coat drive the South Ward Promise Neighborhood and Macy’s teamed up for.
“Nearly two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, it is more important than ever to come together with community partners like Macy’s to bring much-needed relief to the families of Newark’s South Ward,” said Dominique Lee, the founder and CEO of BRICK Education Network, a Newark-based charter management organization. “This was our second year hosting a coat pop-up shop, and it meant so much to us to see the joy a new coat brought some of our friends and neighbors during this difficult time. We look forward to reaching even more community members through events like this in the coming year.”
